Adam Flatt is the festival’s music director and lead clinician. As a professional conductor, Adam enjoys a busy and versatile musical presence in three different regions of the USA. He serves as Music Director of the Newport (Oregon) Symphony Orchestra, the Tuscaloosa (Alabama) Symphony Orchestra, and the Colorado Ballet.
Adam is also highly regarded for his inspiring work with young music students at the highest levels. He teaches on the faculty of the Curtis Institute of Music’s Summerfest and the Rocky Ridge Music Center, both in Colorado. He previously held positions with two of America’s most prominent youth orchestras, the Portland (Oregon) Youth Philharmonic and the Denver Young Artists Orchestra. He also recently enjoyed a residency with the Landes-Jugend-Sinfonie-Orchester Saar, a youth orchestra in Germany.

The festival’s guest clinician for the spring of 2020 will be Mark Laycock, a professor of music at Wichita State University. As a teacher, Mark holds an endowed professorship and has been honored with WSU’s Excellence in Creative Activity Award and the Excellence in Teaching Award. In Wichita, he also directs the youth orchestra programs and is the Youth Symphony Conductor.
